Outside again, this time with a green dress, a white and pink hat, and pink boots. These photos were done during the evening golden hour and we were exploiting that wonderful sunlight. As always, whenever working with kids, especially toddlers, do not try to push them to make faces. A real frown will always look better then a forced smile. Try everything in your tool kit to get a real smile, but if it does not work, settle for a real frown, and keep the show moving otherwise you will have real tears and wishing you had that real frown again.
She kept looking down for these, that is because the phone with her show was on the ground. I worked around it but caught a few of her looking down for the “somber” look. Remember: most of your audience has no clue what is really going on during your session. They just see the photo. So, roll with what you can get and let them infer the emotions from it; accurately or inaccurately.
Anyways, no extra light sources for these photos. This was literally a “let’s go outside, let the subject be, and get what we get” sort of session. Which works out often after some practice.
