These were shot with the same set up I mentioned in the post from the other day. We were having a lot of fun with it and my assistant wanted to try some “serious” photos. And to be clear, they do work in this light and the reason they work is because the shadows add to the drama of serious looks.
And we did do some serious looks, for a bit.
But then I handed her a toy ukulele and she scoffed – until I told her to rock out with it. Suddenly she was bouncing around with it and having a lot of fun. This in turn got her little sister who was walking around on set curious. Suddenly her little sister wanted her picture taken with the instrument as well. She was mystified by it or something because she gave it a good look over for a couple minutes as I took her picture. It was really cool to see happen.
Don’t be afraid to get silly or have fun on your set, especially if working with siblings because each photo session can impact the other photo session. Just like if you make one of your subjects upset it can bring down the other subjects who are on set, if you get one of your subjects to have fun it very well might result in everyone having fun and a fun photo session is always a good thing and will lead to more naturally poses occurring.
